Switzerland accedes to the 2005 Choice of Court Convention

On 18 September 2024 the Swiss Confederation deposited its instrument of accession to the Convention of 30 June 2005 on Choice of Court Agreements (2005 Choice of Court Convention).

With the accession of Switzerland, 35 States and the European Union are bound by the 2005 Choice of Court Convention. It will enter into force for Switzerland on 1 January 2025. More information on this Convention is available on the Choice of Court Section of the HCCH website.

At the ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, depositary of the HCCH Conventions, Switzerland was represented by Ms Sandra Sylvia Caluori Bonato, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The depositary was represented by Mr Jules van Eijndhoven, Head of the Treaties Division, Mr Coos Maas, Legal Officer at the Treaties Division, and Ms Jasmin Vassilev, Country Officer at the Western Hemisphere Department, while the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH was represented by Dr Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General, Ms Melissa Ford, Secretary (Diplomat Lawyer) and Head of the Transnational Litigation Division, and Ms Melanie Maier, Intern.

Switzerland has been a Member of the HCCH since 1957 and is now a Contracting Party to 21 HCCH Conventions.
