North Macedonia ratifies the 2005 Choice of Court Convention
Today, 21 November 2024, the Republic of North Macedonia deposited its instrument of ratification of the Convention of 30 June 2005 on Choice of Court Agreements (2005 Choice of Court Convention).
With the ratification of North Macedonia, 36 States and the European Union are bound by the 2005 Choice of Court Convention. The Convention will enter into force for North Macedonia on 1 March 2025. More information on this Convention is available on the Choice of Court Section of the HCCH website.
At the ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, depositary of the HCCH Conventions, North Macedonia was represented by H.E. Ms Beti Jacheva, Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mr Esat Veliu, Counsellor at the Embassy of North Macedonia, Prof Ilija Rumenov, Associate Professor of Private International Law at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, and Ms Veronika Efremova, Regional Coordinator for North Macedonia at the Center for International Legal Cooperation.
The depositary was represented by Mr Jules van Eijndhoven, Head of the Treaties Division, Mr Rieks Boekholt, Senior Legal Officer at the Treaties Division, and Ms Dorith Blijleven, Legal Officer at the Treaties Division, while the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH was represented by Dr Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General, and Ms Melissa Ford, Secretary (Diplomat Lawyer) and Head of the Transnational Litigation and Apostille Division.
North Macedonia has been a Member of the HCCH since 1993 and is now a Contracting Party to 11 HCCH Conventions.
