Official Opening of the new Premises of the Regional Office for Latin America

Buenos Aires, 25 November 2015 - Today, Ambassador Horacio Basabe, together with Dr Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) and Mr Ignacio Goicoechea, the HCCH's Representative for Latin America, officially opened the new offices of the Regional Office for Latin America.

"While the Regional Office for Latin America has served the region since 2005 with remarkable success, the opening of these new offices marks the beginning of a new phase for the HCCH's presence in the region," the Secretary General said. 

And Mr Goicoechea added: "The new premises will be important for disseminating the work of the Hague Conference and they will provide modern facilities for interns, researchers and secondments, who will contribute to enhance the services of the HCCH in the region."

The official opening was preceded by a colloquium on the Role of the Regional Office for Latin America. Approximately 50 invited guests followed with great interest speeches delivered by Ambassador Horacio Basabe (Director International Legal Co-operation, at the Argentinean Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Minister Ricardo Perez Manrique (Supreme Court of Uruguay), Mr Brendan O'Brien (US Consul in Argentina), Mr Alfonso Lages Besada (Secretary, Embassy of Brazil in Argentina), and Professor Paula Maria All (Vice President of the American Association of Private International Law - ASADIP).

The Secretary General concluded the official opening stating: "In the name of the HCCH, I extend my deepest gratitude and heartened thanks to the Government of Argentina for its invaluable and ongoing support, which made the move and installation in the new premises possible."
