Serbia joins the 1996 Hague Protection of Children Convention
On Friday 15 January 2016, Serbia deposited its instrument of accession to the Hague Convention of 19 October 1996 on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in Respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children and thus became the 43rd Contracting State to the Convention. The Convention will enter into force for Serbia on 1 November 2016. Serbia is now a Contracting State to 12 Conventions of the Hague Conference on Private International Law.
At the ceremony, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, the Embassy of Serbia was represented by H.E. Mr Petar Vico, Ambassador, and Mr Saša Obradovic, Legal Adviser. Secretary General Christophe Bernasconi and Legal Officer Frédéric Breger represented the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference.
