First Meeting of the Working Group on the Financial Aspects of Intercountry Adoption
From 26 to 28 June 2023, the Working Group on the Financial Aspects of Intercountry Adoption met for the first time. The meeting, held online, was attended by 42 experts in total, representing 16 Member States, three non-Member Contracting Parties, and three Observers. Several staff members of the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH also attended the meeting.
The mandate of the Working Group is to take stock of current practices, identify possible coordinated, targeted, practical approaches, and to prioritise them with the understanding that the objective would be to raise standards using the HCCH Guides to Good Practice and the Note on the Financial Aspects of Intercountry Adoption as the starting point. The Working Group will present a report on the progress of its work to the Council on General Affairs and Policy in March 2024.
The report of the first meeting is available here. More information on the 1993 Adoption Convention is available on the Adoption Section of the HCCH website.
