Romania signs the 2000 Protection of Adults Convention
Today, 29 August 2024, H.E. Mr Lucian Fătu, Ambassador of Romania to the Netherlands, signed, on behalf of Romania, the Convention of 13 January 2000 on the International Protection of Adults (2000 Protection of Adults Convention).
The 2000 Protection of Adults Convention, which currently has 16 Contracting Parties, will enter into force for Romania only after it deposits an instrument of ratification pursuant to Art. 53(2) of the Convention. At the ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, depositary of the HCCH Conventions, Romania was represented by Ambassador Fătu and Mrs Ioana-Gabriela Costache, Minister Plenipotentiary and Legal Advisor at the Embassy of Romania. The depositary was represented by Mr Jules van Eijndhoven, Head of the Treaties Division, and Mr Stephan Hessels, Legal Officer at the Treaties Division, while the Permanent Bureau of the HCCH was represented by Mr Philippe Lortie, Diplomat Lawyer and co-Head of the International Family and Child Protection Law Division.
Romania has been a Member of the HCCH since 1991 and is bound by eleven HCCH Conventions and one Protocol.
