Costa Rica, the Philippines and Viet Nam join various Hague Conventions

Today, Wednesday 16 March 2016, during the Council on General Affairs and Policy of the Hague Conference, Costa Rica deposited the instruments of accession to the Convention of 15 November 1965 on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents in Civil or Commercial Matters (Service Convention), for which it will become the 70th Contracting State, as well as the Convention of 25 October 1980 on International Access to Justice (Access to Justice Convention), for which it will become the 28th Contracting State, and the Convention of 18 March 1970 on the Taking of Evidence Abroad in Civil or Commercial Matters (Evidence Convention), for which it will become the 59th Contracting State.
Costa Rica is already a Contracting State to the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (Apostille Convention), the Convention of 25 October on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (1980 Child Abduction Convention), and the Convention of 29 May 1993 on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (1993 Intercountry Adoption Convention). Costa Rica has been a Member of the Hague Conference since January 2011.

 

Additionally, the Philippines deposited its instrument of accession to the 1980 Child Abduction Convention. It will become the 94th Contracting State to this Convention.
The Philippines is currently bound by the 1993 Intercountry Adoption Convention and has been a Member of the Organisation since July 2010.

 

 

Finally, Viet Nam deposited its instrument of accession to the Service Convention, for which it will become the 71st Contracting State. Viet Nam is already a Contracting State to the 1993 Intercountry Adoption Convention and has been a Member of the Organisation since April 2013.
